Uta Hagen exercises 1 - 11 will occur throughout the semester 50 pts ea. from her books A Challenge for the Actor and Respect for Acting
- Basic object exercise ( a day in your life) the mime exercise
- Three entrances -(enter a room with three different intentions)
- The Fourth Side - (use the fourth wall as part of the acting area)
- Changes in Self - (Find the different ways you respond to different stimuli)
- Moment to Moment - (The search for something that develops moment to moment)
- Recreating physical sensations- (recreating physical sensations in an imaginary environment)
- Bring the Outdoors Onstage - ( recreating an outdoor environment)
- What you do while Waiting - (creating secondary activities while doing nothing at all)
- Talking to Yourself- (how we talk to ourselves onstage)
- Talking to Your Audience - ( how we can talk directly to an audience comfortably)

Scene from Teen Life
Students will create a scene from teen life in pair or threes
The scene will be two to three minutes long
The characters will interact dealing with a crisis or a moment of dramatic conflict typical to teen life

Shakespeare monologues
Students will learn a monologue from Shakespeare..."All the World's a Stage" from As You Like It , Portia's "The Quality of Mercy" speech from The Merchant of Venice..or a selected speech from Romeo and Juliet (50 pts)
Playwright bio presentation and play report
Students will give a report on an assigned playwright from the 1700's to today either European or American. Make a Powerpoint or a poster to aid the presentation. Student needs to read a play by the playwright and discuss that work in their presentation. (200 pts.)
Attend a Play at Hart or a professional production
Students must attend a live play production during the semester and write a five paragraph analytical essay about the experience based on elements of theatre they have learned in class. This is a very important assignment and has a large impact on grade. Students who cannot afford the price of a ticket may earn one through service at a production.
Textbook work and Performance
Students will cover Chapters 7-12 in The School and the Stage
Students will also work in the Interpretations Workbook and perform scenes from this and other texts
Students will be required to perform a final project for an audience. ( Scenes or a one act play)
